Advantage #1 – More space You gain more space within rooms, and this space can help you become more organised by using it for storage, or simply for having some space for your home to breath.

Advantage #2 – More time Our “stuff” costs us time. If you have less stuff, it stands to reason that you will have to spend less time cleaning, maintaining things, and have more time for fun stuff instead.

Advantage #3 – More money Following on from number 2 in this list – stuff costs money – not only to buy, but also to maintain and store.

Advantage #4 – Less cleaning If you have less stuff, you will have less to clean, dust and maintain.

Advantage #5 – Space reclaimed Just de-cluttering a room can transform it – and possibly saves the need for complete redecoration as it gives the whole space a new lease of life.

Advantage #6 – More productivity Being more organized will provide a positive return in time (and we all know that time is money). The returns can be quite significant. Get things done by getting rid of clutter.

Advantage #7 – More relaxing Research in recent years has found that stress levels at home are at their highest when dealing with belongings. In other words, the less time you spend dealing with your stuff, the more relaxed you will be. A de-cluttered home is more relaxing to be in.

Advantage #8 – House proud If every single item you own makes you happy, you will be proud of everything you have and hence be house proud.

Advantage #9 – De-cluttering purifies the air around you Guess what’s clinging to your clutter? Yep, dust - directly affecting the quality of the air you breathe. This means that time spent on cleaning literally purifies the air you breath - good for your mind and your body.

Advantage #10 – De-cluttering can help others The stuff you don’t need anymore might be useful for someone else. Donating your unused stuff is a fine way to up your charitable budget without using cash.

Bonus: Giving your stuff away helps the environment. If old toasters, hair dryers, books etc. are handed around to different people, less stuff would need to be produced. Give your old stuff a new lease on life with a new owner, and save the planet at the same time!

De-cluttering does not mean getting rid of everything you own, it merely means taking away that which you really don’t want / need or use anymore.

There are so many advantages to de-cluttering, that its a great way to give yourself and your home a boost every so often.
